Create your own perfect  morning routine

First drop that word, “perfect”. There is a saying that Perfection is the enemy of the Good. It often sets us up for failure. A morning routine that works for you may not work for your best friend.  Enjoy taking your time to get ready for work. Drink a warm cup of water to stimulate digestion and then move onto eating breakfast and finishing with a cup of coffee or tea then taking a shower and doing some yoga. This may not work for your best friend who starts his day with coffee and drinks two cups of it before 11 a.m. He works out at 6 p.m. in the gym and dislikes yoga.

Creating a routine is often something that happens by trial and error. Some of us like to shower before breakfast, others prefer to wait until they have some food in their stomach. Some people feel stressed out exercising before work whereas others are energized by doing this. You need to have flexibility to be successful at sticking with the routine you choose. Emergencies occur that can upset the entire regimen and even with the best of intentions this happens. You may like to go to the gym 3 days a week, but what if your car breaks down and this is not possible? Instead of viewing this as your workout being decimated, you can improvise and take a walk instead or do some body weight exercises such as planks and pushups in your home.

Building in a series of rewards also keeps us on track. I use stickers on my exercise calendar. When you have nine-twelve stickers, it is time to grant yourself a reward. It may be a walk down the beach instead of doing yoga in the house or you may buy yourself something small like a fancy keychain or a magazine. Another method that motivates us is to have photos of your family members prominently displayed so that you will think of them and how much they love you every time you work out. If you are high over weight cholesterol and/or high blood pressure, you want to be around to see your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren graduate milestones such as weddings and anniversaries often motivate people to seek out a personal trainer or nutrition coach to attain their goals and setting up a personalized routine.
